Slow Down Reckless Drivers
It is time we act about reckless drivers. Intelligent Speed Assistance technology will make our streets safer and ensure that a small number of reckless drivers, who are disproportionately responsible for the deaths and serious injuries on our streets, don't control our public spaces. Anti-speeding technology called intelligent speed assistance is proven to save lives and can stop the most reckless drivers from causing harm without taking away their ability to get around.

NYCDOT now has the power to lower its speed limits but now we need this change to be applies to streets and neighborhoods across NYC. When Sammy’s Law passed, NYCDOT has the opportunity to reduce the speed limit on most city streets from 25 mph to 20 mph. During the first nine months of 2024, only 2% of fatalities happened on streets with speed limits below 25 mph. Implementation began in October 2024 and must continue to expand quickly. Slower speeds save lives; only 9.5% of New York City’s streets have a speed limit of 30 mph or above, yet 28% of the year's fatalities happened on those streets.
